I also have Audition and all the Saw movies. That being said, I'm pretty sick of seeing the same old type of thing over and over with horror, lately it's been "torchure porn" as I call it (Wolf Creek, Hostel, Saw, etc and so on). Just movies with people screaming while being tied up where everyone dies in the end usually. So it's cool to see a new type of monster movie come out, like Silent Hill, as opposed to the same old thing that is trendy now-a-days. It obviously fails in comparison to the great video games, but its better than 90% of the horror shit that comes out every year (Pulse, The Eye, P2).
Your main point about it not being scary, alright, I'll give you that. It wasn't. What horror movie really is though? I only saw 2 or 3 movies that were actually scary, so I can't really expect anything to scare me. The game is scary though so I can expect you to want to be scared when it's based on something actually creepy. It wasn't scary but it had cool monsters, a cool setting, and I didn't hate the acting out of the two lead females. The cop was also straight out of the games. She looked like a video game character.
I can sort of see what you mean with the end...I liked it all the way until they are in the church and all that exposition. It could of went alot smoother. However, it's basically the same story that happened to the little girl in the game, and I don't think they totally butchered it.
I would of liked to see a much darker Silent Hill movie but this movie had the right idea, just has some crappy moments through-out. It's the same thing with alot of movies based on something else, they cheapen it because they don't think general audiences would like the source material. I disagree with that idea, but it happens with everything, and Silent Hill was not desecrated as much as other video game adaptations such as the Resident Evil film series.
