Vol. 5 ........cause nobody else seems to have done it yet.

So, I've been waiting for this day nerotically for.......christ knows how long. I geuss since vol. 4.
So I waited outside of the beguiling, and bought the first one from them ( Yay?).
Anyways, my thoughts on vol.5
Totally awesome, but not that supriseing.
I loved the focus on kim. I loved that we finally got confermation that she still likes him. I loved the new knives/ramona fight. But like, there wasen't anything....new, really.
There were no real new caracters, and there were lotsa references to the earlier books ( all though I am still laughing my ass off at the talking cactus)
The twins were dissapointing. I have to say, they are probably the lamest ex so far, even under the 2nd one. And they diden't look asian at all. Like, wallice looks a million times more asian then them. And is it just me, or did they look like the dudes from penny arcade? But whatever. There robots were funny.
And while I was kinda happy to see lawrence and mobile, it kinda runied the.....magic? I geuss? Like, just about nothing was gained from them walking in and going "hey, I'm that dude you've never seen". It just seemed thrown in there to make everybody stop going "OMG MOBILE IS GIDEON"
Oh, and the re-appearance of evil scott. I have no clue what to say to that. I thought that it was just supposed to be a metaphore for his kinda....depressed-ness, and the way that he was before. Apparentlly not. This book was also way shorter than vol 4. which is also a bit sad.

Wow, I just noticed that I have basically only written bad things. Don't get me wrong, there was a ton of funny-ass stuff, and I liked it. But I have to say, it's for sure not as good as vol3 or 4.

But hey, this is a forum. Everybody, please, give your two cents worth!

I feel like this one is more connected to the next one in line (aka 6) than any of the others have been. For the most part, the first 4 would introduce an evil, along with some other issue for super-scott to sort out (job, relationships). Scott would defeat said evil, and at the end things would be pretty solid. This one just kind of drifted into [infinite] sadness and ended there, with resolution coming (hopefully?) in 6. So I guess it was just hard for me the way it ended. It was still really good. I kinda just feel like I need things resloved NOW. *sigh* i am weak.

I quite liked the sadness. I tend to find that the main weakness in lots of graphic novels is there obsession with haveing to have a nice ending. Which this one did not. And ya, this one was kinda a big leadup to the next one. But I have to point out, that 5 has kinda directly followed up from 4. Like, they still go to sneeky dees, they still are recording, Knives is still going after stephen, and there is still a bit of that underlying theme of Lesbians that was totally domanent ( and totally awesome) in vol 4. Well, here's hopeing that 6 is gonna be totally mind-blowingly awesome.

vol 2 was really connected to vol 3

Mhm. It's true that 5 picked up pretty much where 4 left off, the difference though was that 4 left us with a warm feeling in our tummies.... I also agree that its a good thing that v5 took this direction, and didn't force a resolution when one wouldn't have fit.

as far as comedy goes, 4 was better. As far as deep undertone and themes, even better than the other volumes. :D

one thing that left me feeling like i was missing something was Ramona kicking Scott out. The Knives confrontation was good, but the way she just kinda non-chalantly kicks him out of the apartment (because he forgot his key...?), and then Scotts relative ease with the whole situation. Like, there have been times when he has flipped out over miniscule things, but for this hes joking about sleeping over at Wallaces and Kims and I dunno. I understand the reveal by Knives, and the subsequent falling out b/w Ramona and Scott, but I feel like I'm missing something in regards to the way it played out....

last volume he got it together. :P

I think Scott was sort of in denial about getting kicked out. He's pretty much clueless about most things.

I loved this volume. This took a lofty, fantastical idea and grounded it with real emotions. My main problem with the series has been that there had been little detail on Scott and Ramona's relationship. I was never really sure how they worked together on a regular basis. This volume really satisfied my need to see their relationship as real.

It started to get to the real question: what happens after the 7 evil exes? What if Scott and Ramona don't work out? This is huge!

I'm glad they addressed the glowing.

I loved all the video game/x-men/indie rock/backstreet boys (amazing moment) references

I think the action scenes may have been the best of the series.

Overall, this really got to me. I laughed, I squirmed, I got stressed. This volume took me on a ride and I loved it. Can't wait for the final book!

ARRRRGHLARGGLEGARGLE!
*SPOILERS*

I love it how Scott is actually growing up. Every volume it seems he's taking another step in fending for himself instead of letting other people take care of him.

I really felt bad for how Scott is convinced that "everything will work out" if he just beats enough bad guys. Kinda hits a little close to home. (But I guess that's the point)

I would marry Kim Pine if only she were a real person. She really felt like the hero of this one to me. Of all the girls in the series I think Scott should end up with her (but I really doubt he will). Her little act of sacrifice with the cell phone during the twins fight hit me right in the heart.

Even if Ramona and Scott don't end up together I really hope she finds some form of redemption. Poor girl is effed up bad.

As far as one-liners go, Young Neil is now the reigning champ.

indeed; the cell phone bit was amazing.

Hell, I'd definitely marry Kim Pine in a second (she'd keep me laughing all day).

The panel that has her "reading the message" but just shows the low battery sign?
Broke my heart.
