The new teaser for "Avatar" is out: http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/avatar

Cameron has said this movie is the next step in film's evolution, but it left me feeling a little bleah. Some amazing imagery in there though. I did perk up when I saw the mechas walking around.

Some folks are saying that this teaser doesn't do it justice because it is being made to be seen in 3D.

Did anyone go see the special 3D screenings of "Avatar" footage last Friday?

Overhyped

Trailers of the movie and its subject matter in all honesty look boring as hell to me

My initial reaction was to shake my head at the blue faeries, but Cameron has made some of the best sci-fi films out there. I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves me wrong.

The hype has been making the special effects out to be groundbreaking. That the SFX were so realistic that you couldn't tell the difference between real and fake.

Then I watched it and called Super Shenanigans on the whole damn thing.

Technically it doesn't look more advanced than anything we've seen before but the imagination on display is delightful. There were some shots that looked eerily close to something George Lucas would concoct. However historically James Cameron tells very character-driven stories (successfully - unlike Lucas' attempts) so I'm expecting a decent drama regardless of the special effects.

Overrated. The design is lame and the facial animation doesn't look so hot. besides, http://img.denihilation.com/

Some of those are definitely a stretch, but it's fun to bring up Delgo whenever possible.

I think, Cameron is ranting more about his new technology than the film.

I think when it comes to it he most likely designed that technology and was like hmmm where can I use it
and then pulled a script he wrote eighteen years ago but never used and was like Booyah!!

I'm waiting for the 3-d like .

Seriously though, I really think this movie is going to blow.

Also, I hate that people are citing this as the most realistic CG ever, which thus far seems untrue.

In all honesty, I'd give my hat off to Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are. Have you seen the CG with the facial expressions and the hair? Gorgeous!

I wonder what Movie that award should go to...

*cough*Bayformers*cough*...

I'm gonna watch the teaser now, as I actually haven't watched it. As soon as they started saying how amazing it was gonna be, I was put off. I'll edit after I've watched it.

EDIT: what little interest I had in this movie was just lost. This is gonna blow.

I was also very underwhelmed by the teaser. The first time the creature speaks and says "This is great!", I was like "Ugh." It didn't look like he was speaking at all. The movie doesn't look like a bad movie, but it doesn't look like anything I would go to a midnight showing for either. Looks about the same as every other CG-fest.

no idea why its touted as the second coming of sci-fi, what ive seen is very average, discrict 9 looks way more important to the genre than avatar.

Saw 25 minutes worth of footage at Comic-Con, and I thought it was awesome. For some reason, I feel like we're seeing premature backlash. If no one had come out and said that it was going to change the course of filmmaking as we know it and blah blah blah, I'm sure more people would be pissing their pants now. But as it is, people are expecting to come away from the film like they've seen Jesus or something. Everyone has been saying, "it's overhyped" and "I don't buy the hype and "hype hype hype hype hype hype." I realize that you can read whatever you want on the internet (I hate the argument saying if you don't like something, don't watch/read it), but you don't necessarily have to believe or listen to everything people say. That's at least my take on it. I get why people are skeptical, but I'll go see it because I want to. And I'll form my own opinion on it after that.

Plus, I have a girl crush on Sigourney Weaver.
